A complete starter pack for the new 5-string banjo player, including the popular Goodtime banjo with resonator! Made in USA.

A resonator back provides more projection of sound in the Goodtime 2. Deering makes it here in the USA, at the Deering shop with the same tooling they use to make the top of the line banjos. Greg Deering designed the Goodtime banjos because there were no low priced banjos of enough quality for people to actually learn on without difficulty or giving up. He remembers what it was like to want a good banjo and not be able to afford one, so his gift to others is the Goodtime banjo line. Designed for success, the Goodtime banjos are the lowest priced American made banjos.

They are so good many professionals have recorded with Goodtime banjos. The Goodtime 2 weighs 6 lbs, about the weight of a guitar. Includes a natural blonde maple satin finish to protect it. If you want a great low priced bluegrass banjo for travel and leisure that plays correctly and is durable, this is the best buy on the market!

Want 5th-string railroad spike capos? We offer this as a free service when you buy a banjo from us. Choose Yes or No when you add this banjo to your shopping cart.

What's a 5th-string railroad spike capo? Click here to see a photo. When you use a standard capo on your banjo fretboard, fretting strings 1 through 4, you'll need to capo the 5th string separately. The 5th string starts at the 5th fret. If your standard capo is on the 2nd fret, you also need to capo the 5th string two frets higher, at the 7th fret. We recommend installing railroad spike capos on frets 7 and 9 (A and B). We install them on the fretboard just under the 5th string, an idea that was developed and used by Earl Scruggs himself. We use them, and so do most of the professional players we know. When you're playing, you don't really notice the spikes because they're out of the way, but they're always there when you need them. Simply slide the 5th string under the spike. When you're done, slide it out.

Note: Our banjos are individually inspected and set up by our staff in Georgia, and delivered ready-to-play. We are banjo players, so we set them up the way we want to play them! Each banjo is in tune when we carefully pack it for shipment. Climate conditions and travel will affect the tuning, so it may need to be fine-tuned before playing.

Reviewer: Clellan Tidwell from Pioneer, TN United States
The staff at helped me with my order by recommending the Goodtimes 2 starter package as a gift for my grandson for Christmas.Today is Christmas day and he is thrilled, as I am. So much so, that I also have ordered one for myself. Thanks for excellent customer support and the starter package is great, too.
