The first 71 Special was constructed in 1970. A 71 Special and associated parts was placed on permanent exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1975.
The 71 Special features: rosewood back and sides, a spruce top, voiced top and back bracing, variegated wood back strip, herringbone purfling and soundhole rosette, bound ebony fingerboard and ebony bridge, abalone snowflake fingerboard inlays, mother-of-pearl bellflower headstock inlay, and gold plated keys. The width of the fingerboard at the nut is 1-11/16 inch. |
