What are Electric Banjos?

These banjos are useful when a player is looking to add volume. Electric banjos being played by artists and performers such as Taylor Swift, The Avett Brothers, Will Champlin, and Winston Marshall from Mumford & Sons are Acoustic/Electric banjos. These banjos have some form of pick up or transducer added that allows the banjo volume to be adjusted.

While banjos produce a truly iconic and beautiful sound, they’re not always ideal for playing on stage or for a large crowd. Acoustic banjos are better suited to be played alone or with small groups. With an electric banjo that same sound and tone can be achieved, but at a louder volume and without the feedback.

The electric banjos that we carry all feature the Kavanjo® banjo pickup system, including our entry-level model, the Deering Goodtime Acoustic/Electric. The Kavanjo® pick up system features a magnetic humbucking pickup suspended from a customized mylar head. This patented humbucking pickup system brings a suspended magnetic pickup past the surface of the banjo head and closer to the strings than ever before. And no more unwanted feedback!
